MEET THE EXEC

Angelos

President

Hello, my name is Angelos and I am the President of DASH. I am a second year Philosophy and Psychology student. The principles of DASH reflect the principles I live my life by: Live with respect, be humane and use reason in your everyday life. After all, an ethical life can be based on our own reason and humanity, without the need of it being imposed by a supernatural deity. I do advocate celebrating the one life we know we have with the above principles.

If you’d like to join a society where the big questions of life, death and the cosmos are debated, and where great ideas are exchanged, then DASH is the place for you. I’m really looking forward to meeting all of you this year. Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries!

James

Treasurer

Hello, my name is James and I’m the Treasurer at DASH. I’m a third year mature student studying anthropology. Prior to this I worked as a long distance lorry driver, travelling throughout Asia and the Middle East, a position that enabled me to meet and interact with many people of different cultures and religions. I soon came to realise that whilst I had come across many different belief systems and ideas about the nature of the universe, what nearly everyone did have in common was a willingness to help, be kind, a desire to be a good person. This reinforced my belief that any concept of a supernatural God is not only unlikely, it is unnecessary and indeed sometimes detrimental, as it serves only to divide people on the grounds of a false reality, rather than unite based on what we truly all have in common.

Sammy

Secretary

Hello, my name is Sammy and I'm the secretary of DASH. I'm a second year student studying Physics and Philosophy, and despite having both a Jewish and a Sikh background I have been an atheist for as long as I can remember.

I have always believed that no-one is above humanity, and that in the absence of any God all we can do is strive to improve ourselves and ensure we have a truly rational basis for our beliefs and our ethics. DASH is a great way to meet interesting people, share ideas and get involved in events, and I look forward to another great year.
